What is Scabies Disease?
Scabies is an infectious skin disease caused by minor skin
mites.
The main symptom of scabies is intense itching at night. In
addition, skin rashes appear in areas where mites nest.
Scabies mites
Scabies mites are called Sarcoptes scabies. Using their
mouths and front legs, they make holes in the outer skin layer and lay their
eggs there.
After 3 or 4 days, baby mites (larvae) hatch and cross the
skin surface of adult mites.
Warm places, such as skin folds, can be found between the
fingers, under the nails, around the hip or breast. They can also be stored
under watchband, bracelets or under rings.
How does scabies spread?
Scabies is usually spread through prolonged skin contact
with an infected person.
It is also rare, but it will be contagious to use clothes,
towels, and bedspreads of patients infected with scabies.
It may take up to 8 weeks for scabies to appear after the
first infection. Known that this an incubation period.
Treatment of scabies
If you think you have scabies, visit the nearest hospital.
It is usually not a serious condition, but it needs to be treated.
The 2 most commonly used treatments for scabies are
permethrin cream and malathion lotion. Both drugs contain insecticides that
kill scabies mites.
Avoid physical contact until both you and your partner have
completed the entire treatment process.
If your skin is irritated and inflamed due to excessive
itching, scabies can sometimes lead to a secondary skin infection.
Shelled scabies is a rare but heavier form of scabies with
numerous mites on the skin. This can develop in the elderly and people with
reduced immunity.
