Indispensable WhatsApp Tips
21. Archive
In WhatsApp, you can choose to archive a message. You get
this option if you hold down a conversation in the overview. What is archiving
anyway? This means that the message is not deleted, but is no longer explicitly
present in the call list. By scrolling down you will see the option 'archived
chats', where you can find the archived messages. This can be useful if you do
not want to delete messages, but simply do not need them.
22. Shortcut
If you use WhatsApp over and over to chat with your friend,
you can open the chat with this person in a much faster way. By holding down
the desired conversation in the chat conversation list, you get the 'create
shortcut for chat' option. With this, an icon appears on your home screen, so
that you go directly to the chat with that person, instead of having to select
that message in the WhatsApp overview.
23. Pop-up window
With notifications, you can set a pop-up to be displayed
with a new message. You can respond directly from a pop-up window without
having to open the application itself. With these settings, you can still
choose to display the pop-up only when the screen is switched on, or only when
the screen is switched off.
24. Widget
WhatsApp also has widgets, which gives you immediate insight
into newly received messages. From the widget, you can immediately go to a
conversation and read the rest of the conversation. To add a widget, go to an
empty space on your home screen, hold your finger there for a few seconds, and
then place the WhatsApp widget.
25. WhatsApp network usage statistics
If you are interested in how many messages you have already
exchanged with your friends, you can view the global statistics in WhatsApp. At
settings, you go to 'data usage' and then to network usage. Here you can see exactly
how many messages you have sent, how many you have received and the same
applies to the media and WhatsApp calls. Note that if you have changed your
telephone, the counter will be reset to zero. You can also reset the statistics
yourself.
26. Send WhatsApp Edit Image
If you want to share a photo with someone, you can edit it
before you send it. After selecting the photo you can crop it and rotate it.
You can also add a caption so that you can immediately explain the photo. In
addition, you can send multiple photos at the same time (up to ten) if you
press the 'plus sign'. For some time we have also been able to provide photos
and videos for sending with stickers, emoji, text and a drawing. For this, you
will find the relevant tools at the top of the screen.
27. Sharing a contact
Quickly give someone else's phone number? If you tap on the
paper clip in the conversation, you will have the option to send multiple
things. One of these options is to send a contact. You get an overview with
contacts and before you click on 'send' you can choose which data has to be
sent. For example, if you only want to send the telephone number but not the
e-mail address of that person, you can uncheck this.
28. Sharing your location
Sharing your location is easy from WhatsApp. You tap on the
paper clip after which you can choose 'location'. Based on what you have set to
request your location (for example, mobile networks, GPS only or both) you get
an overview of places. You can send the current location here, but you can also
choose to send a 'known' place nearby so that there is a landmark. For example,
you can choose the bakery, hairdresser, a school or other places. The location
database of Foursquare is used for these locations.
29. Calling and video calling with WhatsApp
The calling function in WhatsApp was added to the chat app
at the beginning of this year. When opening a conversation with someone you can
start a telephone conversation by pressing the telephone receiver. You can also
start a conversation from the 'calls' tab. During a call, you can also choose
to activate the speakerphone mode, ideal for hands-free calling. You can also
send a message and mute the microphone. Instead of calling, you can also make
video calls via WhatsApp. For this, you will see the option to make video calls
when choosing the call icon.
30. Save data with call function
If you do not have such a large data bundle, you can
activate the special data saving function. At settings you can choose 'data
usage' and below you will find the option 'Limited data usage'. With this, you
can just have a normal telephone conversation but save data in the meantime.
DroidApp discovered this feature in July and you can find our findings in the
article on data saving.
