Indispensable WhatsApp Tips
11. Other telephone number
If you get a different phone number, or you switch to
another provider, for example; then you don't have to give everyone your new
number via WhatsApp. At settings> account> change number, you can change
your telephone number. This keeps your chat history and your contacts
immediately see the new number with your profile, but it is useful if you also
give them the new number. This way you prevent them from catching you with a
text message or telephone for example. Your WhatsApp account, the groups, and
your profile will also be transferred to your new phone number without your
noticing. To activate the new number you have to put your new SIM card with the
new number on your phone.
12. Create groups
Creating a new group for a group conversation is very easy.
If you have opened WhatsApp, go to the menu and choose 'New group'. You choose
a name for the group and an image. Then select the contacts you want in your
group. That is all, and you can start chatting in the group.
13. Create a mailing list
Creating a mailing list can be useful, for example, to send
a specific message to a large group of people. If you get a new number, or you
want to wish everyone a happy new year (see also: Quickly send new year wishes
via WhatsApp and Telegram ). Others do not see to whom you have sent it, but
they do see that you have sent it to several because an icon is shown next to
the message. If someone else sends a message back, only you will see it.
14. Blocking someone
If you want to block someone on WhatsApp, you can do it as
follows. By going to the 'contacts' tab in WhatsApp and then tapping the
contact, the chat window will open. If you open the menu where you get the
option to block someone under 'more'. The blocked contacts will no longer be
able to send you a message via WhatsApp, nor will you be able to call via
WhatsApp. If you want to unblock someone again, it works the same way.
15. WhatsApp Status
Via WhatsApp, you can
now share your stories just like Snapchat and Instagram Stories. For this,
there is WhatsApp Status. You can share a photo, video or moment by pressing
the green icon in the overview with 'Status' at the bottom. You also see the
stories of others in this overview. You can provide your images with stickers,
text, and effects. Your story remains active for 24 hours, after which it is
automatically deleted.
You can also change the old status in WhatsApp. This status
is 'Hey There, I'm using WhatsApp!' By default, but you can also adjust it to
'At work' or 'On the road'. For this, you follow the following steps.
Settings> tap your profile photo and press your current status.
16. Google Drive
You no longer have to get started with transferring files,
as before. You can now find Google Drive integration in WhatsApp. This allows
you to back up your media files and chat conversations. If you choose 'backup'
on your old device at Settings> Chats> Chat backup, this will be saved in
your Google Drive account. Your new device will then ask if you want to restore
a previously made backup.
17. Search WhatsApp conversations
If you need to look up something important such as an agreed
date or something else, the WhatsApp search function is an ideal tool. The
search function can be found at the top of the screen near the magnifying
glass. You then enter a search term and you can search through all your
messages. If you want to limit the search to one group or contact, open that
conversation and select 'search' on the menu.
18. Download media
In the menu with settings under 'chats and calls' and then
under 'media download automatically' you get the option to adjust the download
settings. If you have a small data bundle, you do not want a video to be
downloaded via the mobile network. Here you can set all of this. So you can
choose that you automatically receive the photos via mobile network, but not
videos and audio and when roaming you want to download everything manually
yourself.
19. Save media in gallery
If you are a fanatic WhatsApp user, you will probably often
receive photos from friends. The photos are stored in the phone memory of your
smartphone. As a result, the sent and received photos are also displayed in
your phone's photo gallery app. If you no longer want this and do not want to
save every photo, you can switch it off with a detour. Make sure you have a
file manager (as we mentioned in tip 15) and go to the WhatsApp / Media /
WhatsApp Images/folder. Here you choose to create a new folder that you call
.nonmedia (including the dot). All
WhatsApp images will be hidden, including the previously received images. If
you want to undo this, you can remove the .nomedia folder from the WhatsApp
Images folder.
20. Change background
In the menu under 'chats and calls,' you can change the
background of your chat conversations with the 'background' option. If you are
bored with the standard background, choose a self-made photo or a white, blank
background. There is also a WhatsApp app that gives you a little more choice
from selected wallpapers. Another idea is to download an app like Pixels. This
app lets you download beautiful photos in high resolution, which you can also
use as a background.
