1. WhatsApp two-step verification
WhatsApp offers the possibility to add extra security to the
chat app. Here you can tap the option ' verification in two steps ' under
Settings. This prompts you for a self-selected pin code when you log in to
WhatsApp again and again. This is as extra security to check whether you are
still the person using the service.
2. WhatsApp Web
Since the beginning of this year, you can use WhatsApp on
your computer. If you want to use WhatsApp Web, go to the same menu with the
three dots. There you will see a shortcut to WhatsApp Web. By tapping the
'plus' you can scan the QR code that you get when you go to web.whatsapp.com in
your browser. Then you scan this code and you can start chatting from your web
browser. In this overview, you will also find the possibility to 'forget'
connected devices so that you will be logged out.
3. Mark as read/unread WhatsApp options conversation
If you want to answer a conversation later and therefore do
not want to forget, you can mark it as unread. Displays the message in the
conversation with a notification. Marking the message as read is also possible.
By marking a still unread conversation as read, you no longer receive the
notification that you still have to read a message. Handy when you don't want
to be disturbed. Marking a message as unread or read can be done by pressing
and holding the message and choosing mark as unread at the top of the screen.
4. Custom notifications
With a contact or group conversation, you can set that you
want a different ringtone or color notification. By tapping someone's name in a
conversation, the profile is opened. There you can choose 'custom
notifications'. Here you can set that you want to hear a different ringtone
when that person sends you a message, or that you want a specific color LED
notification if your smartphone supports that.
5. Muting notifications
You can adjust custom notifications in the profile of that
person. Under this option, you will find the option to 'mute'. Here you can
choose to mute notifications and notifications of a group conversation or
conversation with one person. You can choose from different periods here. The
'view notifications' option ensures that you will not be disturbed by a sound,
but will see a notification in your notification bar. If you uncheck this, you
must open WhatsApp yourself to see if there are any new messages.
6. Change profile photo
If you want to change your profile photo to WhatsApp, go to
settings and then to profile. Then tap the pencil at the bottom. Then choose
with which app you want to choose the profile photo, crop your photo and save
the desired photo. Under this option, you will also find the option to change
your name.
7. Privacy: last seen and visibility
Under settings and then account you will find the privacy
settings of WhatsApp. Here you can set who can see when you last opened
WhatsApp. You can set your last viewed status to be visible only to your
contacts, to everyone or nobody. You can set the same for your profile photo
and status.
8. Blue checkmarks
What were they notorious, the blue checkmarks. When you see
blue check marks with a message, it means that the other person has read the
message. At settings> account> privacy, you can disable proof of reading.
This does not allow the other person to see when you have read the message.
However, you will also not see blue checkmarks from the other person if they
have read your message. You cannot disable the blue checkmarks in group
discussions.
9. Who read my message in a group conversation?
The blue checkmarks cannot be turned off in group chat. A
useful feature of this is that you can see exactly to whom a message has been
delivered and which of the participants have all read the message. To view who
has read your message, follow the following steps; open a group
conversation> briefly hold down the message you sent yourself, then click on
the icon with the 'i' at the top of the screen. Here you can see who received
the message and who saw it at that time.
10. Mark messages with a star
To find messages quickly, for example with important
information, you can mark chats with a star. By tapping the three dots at the
top of the chat app and choosing 'Starred messages' you will get an overview of
all the messages that you have marked with a star. A handy feature! You can
mark messages by holding down a message and then pressing the asterisk at the
top of the screen. This way you can also delete it again.
